Ric, originally from St. Petersburg Florida via Cleveland Ohio is known for his supportive, yet uplifting and eclectic approach that is expressed in his playing. During High School, Ric was the recipient of the prestigious National Shelley Mann Scholarship award through Modern Drummer magazine in 1981.
He has had many influences throughout his drumming career. But the one that has made the biggest impact has been Peter Erskine who Ric studied with in New York City between semesters in college.
After receiving his bachelor's in Percussion from the University of South Florida, Ric was awarded a full scholarship and graduate assistantship at the prestigious University of Miami Frost School of Music. There he received his Master's in Studio Music and jazz.
After finishing his Masters at U of M, Ric moved out to Los Angeles and became immersed in the music scene for 25 years (1997-2013). Both degrees were put to good use as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Redlands outside of Los Angeles for 4 years.
For the past 8 years, he has been performing throughout the state of Florida in various musical situations including being on the faculty at the University of South Florida where he taught and continues to be a resident of the Tampa Bay area where it all started.
